Antonio de Felipe was born in Valencia in 1965. From a very young age, he felt artistic concerns that led him to study and graduate in Fine Arts in that city. At the same time he is studying, he works as a creative in an advertising agency “Tela Marinera”, a fact that will undoubtedly mark what his painting style will be in the future.
Currently and for more than a decade he lives and works in Madrid.
In his more than twenty years of intense professional career, Antonio de Felipe has held more than seventy individual exhibitions, both in Spain and abroad, and as many group exhibitions, such as at Casa de Vacas and the Seiquer Gallery in Madrid; at the María José Castellví Gallery, and at the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, at the Valencian Museum of Illustration and Modernity (MUVIM) and at the Museum of the City, Valencia; at the Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa Foundation (BBK), at the Diputaciones de Cádiz, Córdoba and Sevilla, at the Levy galleries in Hamburg, Therminus in Munich, Andipa in London, Salvador in Paris, GKM in Sweden, FMR (Franco Maria Ricci) in Rome, at the Soma Museum and the Lee Gallery in Seoul.
Added to this national and international presence is its participation in fairs such as ARCO, ART COLOGNE, ART PARIS, ART BRUSSELS, ST-ART Strasbourg, or KIAF (Korea International Art Fair), benchmarks to learn about the latest artistic trends.
Antonio de Felipe has developed his extensive work in different series, some of which have managed to become a point of reference, making him one of the most imitated artists in our country. Among its most important series we could mention: LOGOTYPES, dedicated to the world of art and advertising, with works such as “In-fanta de Naranja”, or “El Buen Pastor con Norit”; COWS, with paintings such as the “Top Model Cow (Vogue)” or the “Coca Cola Cow” sculpture, CINEMASPOP, dedicated to the world of cinema and in which he rescued the delicious Audrey Hepburn as a pop icon, with well-known creations such as “ Black Audrey ”or“ Breakfast with diamonds for eternity ”; and POPSPORT, his latest work, dedicated to the world of sports, in which the artist improbably mixes the world of art and cartoons with allusions to different sports disciplines, as in “La Menina de Cibeles”.
The fruitful career of Antonio de Felipe has undoubtedly made him our reference Pop painter in the world; not in vain is he the only Spanish representative in the exhibition on Marilyn Monroe “Life as a legend”, which has traveled to important European cities such as London, Istanbul, Madrid, Lisbon or Helsinki, and the United States such as Chicago and Dallas and that in the He is currently in Canada.
Likewise, Antonio de Felipe is part of the “Les noveaux Pop” movement along with artists from other countries linked to the world of Pop and with whom he is also holding numerous exhibitions beyond our borders.
As a multidisciplinary artist, curious and interested in everything related to creation, Antonio de Felipe has not limited himself to painting or sculpture, in the strictest sense of the word, but has also made inroads in other fields:
he has collaborated with Pedro Almodóvar in the film “Carne Trémula”; it has created continuity curtains for Telemadrid; has designed tableware for the Santa Clara firm, posters, album covers, and has collaborated with important publications such as ByN Dominical (ABC’s Sunday magazine), El País, El Magazine of the newspaper El Mundo, Marie Claire, ELLE, What to read, and Rolling Stone magazine, among others.
It is worth highlighting the facet of Antonio de Felipe as a portraitist, which has led him to paint a large number of people, both anonymous and of social relevance. One of the last paintings he has made, commissioned by the newspaper ABC, has been a portrait of His Highness Prince Don Felipe de Borbón, to commemorate his 40th anniversary.
Numerous public and private collections have the artist’s work in their collections, such as the Reina Sofía National Museum of Art (MNCARS), the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM), the Sydney Besthoff Foundation in New Orleans (United States), the Col-lecció Testimoni de la Fundació La Caixa, the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemizsa Collection, the Kneip Art Collection in Luxembourg, the Carmen Thyssen Andorra Museum and the Montblanc Cultural Foundation.
